Chelsea and Dexter Wellness Centers have achieved Medical Fitness Facility Re-Certification by the Medical Fitness Association (MFA), the country’s leading organization dedicated solely to medically integrated wellness and fitness facilities. The MFA Facility Certification is recognized as a mark of excellence in the health and wellness industry. Chelsea was first certified in 2013 and Dexter in 2015.
So what does that really mean? Here is a quick description of some key guidelines/practices that are in place which set our Wellness Centers apart from other facilities:
Medical Oversight: The Center’s Health Care Advisory Committee, made up of local health care providers, meets quarterly. The Committee provides oversight and recommendations for Center programming, screening practices, testing protocols, emergency response polices, staff training and more.
Pre-Activity Screening: The Wellness Centers use a systematic process of screening members and program participants for chronic diseases, associated risk stratification and participant’s potential for exercise related injury. All new members/program participants complete a Health History Questionnaire (HHQ) when joining the Center. Based on the individual’s responses and following guidelines by the American College of Sports Medicine, physician’s recommendations may be required prior to engaging in an exercise program. The information gathered is also used to help provide safe exercise guidelines.
Emergency Response: Detailed written emergency response plans are in place and all staff are trained to enable a timely and appropriate response to any emergency that threatens the health and safety of facility users.
Programs and Services: The Centers offer a variety of programs, services and education that addresses the needs and interests of our members/participants. Our MyFitRx™ program provides a transition between clinical intervention/rehabilitation and an independent on-going fitness program. Staff assist individuals who manage chronic or multiple medical conditions and those who need additional support.
Professional Staffing: The Center’s Fitness Staff hold degrees in Exercise Science or related field and maintain a variety of certifications appropriate to programs offered and populations served. Group exercise instructors maintain certifications specific to their classes. All team members maintain current AED/CPR certification. The Center team is here to help individuals to safely improve their level of physical activity and feel comfortable and confident about exercise regardless at what level they start.
Facility Operations: Some key facility requirements include a check in/out system that monitors usage, appropriate safety signage and protocols, ADA accessibility, cleanliness, routine preventative maintenance checks, and Safety Data Sheets for all products within the building.
